News of the World nominated for more awards than ever before (11); The Times receives more nominations than any other title (18); The Sunday Times has 15 nominations across 13 different categories; newcomer Buzz among the 7 nominations for The Sun.

The shortlist for The Press Awards has been published today in preparation for the announcement of the winners at the glittering awards ceremony and dinner at London’s Savoy.

The number of awards for which our titles and colleagues have been nominated – 20 out of the 21 categories – shows the breadth and depth of our journalism and highlights the extraordinary editorial talent across the company.

Our titles are pitted against each other in many of the categories, most notably Showbiz Reporter of the Year and Specialist Journalist of the Year.

News of the World’s Dan Wootton and Stephen Moyes, and The Sun’s Gordon Smart and Colin Robertson are all up for the Showbiz Reporter of the Year gong, while The Times’ Ruth Gledhill, Deborah Haynes and Sean O’Neill and The Sunday Times’ Brian Deer are all vying for the Specialist Journalist award.

In the Regular Supplement of the Year category, each title has been nominated: The Times Magazine, The Sunday Times Magazine, News of the World’s Fabulous and the newest supplement in our portfolio, Buzz, which is included in The Sun on Saturday.

Our campaigning has also been honoured with four nominations: News of the World’s decade-long campaign for Sarah’s Law has been put forward for the Campaign of the Year award along with three more from The Times: lifting the lid on the Ministry of Defence wasting billions of taxpayers’ money, NPower overbilling 2 million customers, which forced them to repay £70m compensation, and “Stop the Stoning”, which highlighted the scores of suspected adulterous women stoned to death in one of the world’s most repressive regimes.

The hard work put into developing the iPad apps for The Times, The Sunday Times and Eureka has also been noted, with nominations in the Digital Innovation of the Year category.

And who can forget the cricket corruption scandal which was blown wide open by News of the World last year? This astonishing story, plus The Sunday Times’ Cash for Votes scandal around the World Cup bids for 2018 and 2022 are in the running for Scoop of the Year.

Five awards, including the prestigious Newspaper of the Year, will be announced at the dinner on April 5 after voting by the whole academy of judges and national newspaper editors.
