Right royal result for News International titles

News International’s titles enjoyed a bumper weekend of sales as people across the UK celebrated the Royal Wedding.

All titles saw a sales uplift over the Royal Wedding weekend as readers were drawn to NI's comprehensive coverage of the big day.

On the Saturday, The Sun had a 20-page pullout section while there was a 24-page photo souvenir supplement available in The Times. On the Sunday, the News of the World also offered a 20-page pullout and The Sunday Times had a 16-page pullout which was supported by radio advertising.

The sales were helped by a range of promotions in the lead-up to the day which helped build momentum and encouraged readers to get in the party spirit.  These included free replica Kate Middleton engagement rings, party packs and Union Jack flags in the Sun and an A1-sized Kings & Queens poster and order of service in The Times. The News of the World offered a Royal Wedding music CD which was supported by TV advertising, while The Sunday Times enticed readers with a Royal Wedding Style special.

Claire Myerscough, Business Intelligence Director, News International, said: “Coverage of the Royal Wedding in News International’s titles proved to be particularly popular with readers. The sales uplift goes to show that newspapers are still a big draw and people are attracted to great offers and comprehensive, quality content.”
