The Sun published a record six special editions today, with nine pages of US election news, bringing unique up-to-the-minute coverage of President Elect Barack Obama’s victory to its nine million readers.
The final edition at 8am carried both Obama’s acceptance speech and the speech in which John McCain conceded defeat, including pictures from Obama’s victory rally in Chicago.
News International’s new high-speed presses at Broxbourne enabled both The Sun and The Times to provide up-to-the-minute coverage through to the conclusion of the race -- Britain’s only national newspapers to do so.
Editor of The Sun, Rebekah Wade, paid tribute to the production, editorial and distribution teams for their tremendous efforts through the night to produce the unprecedented coverage.
